Ghosh Group manufactures galvanized C and Z purlins for roofing, industrial buildings, warehouses, factories and structural applications across the UAE – Oman (Salalah, Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa, Barka, Ibri), Saudi Arabia (Jeddha, Dammam), Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Sri Lanka and Jordan, Kenya (Mumbasa), Djbouti, Ethiopia, Ghana, Somalia, South Sudan and more..

Our cold-formed purlins are manufactured from galvanized steel coils conforming to ASTM A653 Grade 50. They are available in thicknesses from 1.5 mm to 3.5 mm and section heights from 102 mm to 352 mm.

Web height, flange, lip, thickness and other specifications can be customized according to the structural and installation requirements of your project.

Z purlins or Z Section purlins are durable and stronger than the C purlins. Z and C purlins are used in combination at overlaps and joints. It acts as a support system and is often placed in between the buildings and the roofing sheets. It ensures that the sheets are tightly attached to the building. Z-purlins are lightweight products and have higher flexibility.

C and Z purlins for roofing and structural applications

Purlins are horizontal structural members used to support roofing sheets, roof decks and other building components. They transfer loads from the roof covering to the principal structural frame.

C and Z purlins are extensively used in steel buildings because they provide structural support while remaining relatively lightweight and straightforward to install.

Ghosh Group manufactures both profiles, allowing customers to select the appropriate section according to the building design, span, loading requirements and connection method.

Final section selection, thickness and spacing must follow the project’s approved structural design.

Galvanized C purlins

C purlins – also known as Cee purlins – have a C-shaped cross-section. They are commonly used to support roofs, walls and other elements in steel and industrial buildings.

Their profile makes them suitable for applications requiring straightforward connections and clearly defined spans. C sections may also be used as wall girts and supporting members, subject to the project’s structural design.

Ghosh Group can manufacture galvanized C purlins in different heights, thicknesses, flange dimensions and lip sizes to suit project requirements.

Galvanized Z purlins

Z purlins have a Z-shaped cross-section that allows adjacent sections to overlap at supports. This makes them suitable for continuous roofing arrangements and longer structural runs.

They are frequently installed between a building’s main structural frame and its roofing sheets. When properly designed and installed, they provide an efficient support system for metal roofing and cladding applications.

Ghosh Group manufactures galvanized Z purlins in multiple section heights and thicknesses, with customization available according to the project specifications.

C purlins versus Z purlins

C purlins Z purlins
C-shaped cross-section Z-shaped cross-section
Commonly used for defined spans Can be overlapped at structural supports
Suitable for roof and wall-support applications Suitable for continuous roofing arrangements
Can be used as wall girts Frequently used in industrial and steel buildings
Offers straightforward connection arrangements Available in customized dimensions
Available in customized dimensions Useful where the approved design requires lapped sections

The project’s structural engineer should determine the final profile, thickness, spacing and connection arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Purlins are secondary roofing members used for providing structural support to buildings.
Yes, purlins offer support to the roofing deck, and therefore, they have load-bearing capacities.
Z sections are stronger than C purlins because the former has higher overlapping capacities than C-purlins.
Yes, you can walk on metal roofing provided they are properly fastened down by purlins.
Purlins should be spaced 1.2 meters apart if the thickness of the sheet is 0.7mm and for 0.5mm, the spacing should be 1 meter. This is the general thumb rule that is usually followed.
